On May 26, 2025, Delta Flight 694, operated by an Airbus A320, took off from Detroit (DTW) at 8:28 p.m. en route to Los Angeles (LAX). Roughly an hour into the flight, a passenger’s dog began exhibiting signs of serious illness.Cabin crew promptly asked if any veterinarians were onboard. Fortunately, one passenger identified themselves as a vet and began emergency care on the animal. Despite in-flight assistance, the flight crew, prioritizing welfare, chose to divert to the nearest Delta hub in Minneapolis (MSP).
Emergency medical personnel were already positioned at the gate to provide further treatment upon landing. The sick dog and its owner were offloaded to receive immediate veterinary attention.
The flight was delayed approximately 2.5 hours. After refueling and clearance, Flight 694 resumed its journey at 10:30 p.m. and landed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 12:55 a.m.
Delta Air Lines issued a statement reinforcing its commitment to safety:
The safety of our customers and people comes before everything else at Delta. That’s why Delta flight 694 diverted to MSP to ensure a cabin pet that became ill received proper care.”
